A fifth-grade teacher who allegedly told one of her pupils that she had developed a “death list” of the pupils and coworkers she worked with was taken into custody.Officers from the East Chicago Police Department were called to St. Stanislaus School, which is about 20 miles south of downtown Chicago, at around 5 p.m. on Wednesday to speak with the principal and assistant principal about a threat that had been made against fifth-grade teacher Angelica Carrasquillo-Torres, a 25-year-old educator from Griffith, Illinois.According to a statement from the East Chicago Police Department posted on social media, “at around 12:45 pm a 5th grade student told his/her counselor that their 5th grade teacher made comments to him/her about killing herself, children, and staff at St. Stanislaus School.” “The teacher further informed the pupil that he or she was at the bottom of a list that she had.”According to school officials, the teacher was immediately sent to the principal’s office to talk about the distressing occurrence and later confessed to them that she had in fact said those things to the pupil and had a “kill list” as well.Authorities confirmed that although the teacher mentioned a particular kid by name during the chat, she withheld the list. The teacher was then told by the principal to leave and stay away from the school until an investigation was conducted.
According to the East Chicago Police Department, the instructor was able to depart the premises before they were contacted by the school four hours after the event. However, as soon as police were alerted, they quickly called the Criminal Investigation Division, which contacted the Lake County Prosecutors Office to request an emergency detention order for the instructorOn Thursday at around 11:15 a.m., Carrasquillo-Torres was brought into custody by the East Chicago Police Department without incident.
Although it is unknown if Carrasquillo-Torres has legal counsel, the investigation is still underway, and according to the authorities, no more information about the case or remarks about the occurrence will be released at this time.
